Obituary

Torie Lee Switzer

January 22, 1963 – May 7, 2022

Torie Lee Switzer (Bodie), 59 of West Terre Haute Indiana, passed away at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday May 7, 2022 at Lazy L Lake (his summer home away from home).  He was born January 22, 1963 in Indianapolis to Jack Eugene Switzer and Betty Jo Switzer (Strain).  Survivors include his wife Pamela Sue Switzer and their two children:  Torie (TJ) & Angela Switzer and Heather & Brandon Hoopengarner.  Siblings:  Jack (Karen) Switzer, Terry Switzer, Betty (Tommy) McAdams, Gary (Rose) Switzer, and Jamie (Amy) Switzer.  He has four grandchildren; Emily Vaughn, Drake Vaughn, Ellie Hoopengarner, and Zoey Hoopengarner.  His mother-in-law Linda Mattox, Sister-in-law Kellie (Tony) Johnson, Brother-in-law Raymond (Kara) Frye, and Kim (Andy) Waggoner.  He also has several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that he thought the world of.  He was proceeded in death by his twin sister Lorie Ree Switzer, both parents Jack and Betty Jo Switzer, and his Father-in-law James (Jim) Mattox.

Torie was an avid outdoors man, he loved deer hunting, mushroom hunting, fishing, and camping.  Torie enjoyed spending time with his cousin Scott Strain.  They would go fishing, work on their boats, or just spend time together having fun.  There was truly never a dull moment when Torie was present, he loved to joke and have fun.  Most importantly he loved his grandkids.  If you would see him out and about in town, most likely you would see Ellie or Zoey or sometimes both.  He lived to torment his granddaughters any way he could.  Ellie and Zoey had him wrapped around their fingers.  If they were ever in conversation, he would always end with, “I love you to infinity, HA, HA, I beat!”

Torie worked many years at Gartland Foundry in Terre Haute as a molder.  After his retirement from Gartland, they purchased their summer home (camper).  They spent entire summers camping, boating, skiing, and fishing.  Torie enjoyed having family & friends over at the lake.  He would take them out on the boat, spend the day jet skiing, or just setting around the campsite.  If there was fun involved, Torie would be in the midst.

Funeral services for Torie will be 4:00 pm on Friday May 13, 2022 at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN, with Pastor Chris Wilbur officiating.  Visitation will be 2:00 pm until service time in the funeral home.  Burial will take place later in Watson Cemetery.
