Robert J. Dyer, 75 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 in his residence.  He was born in Dixon, IL on December 29, 1944 to DeWayne Dyer and Dorothy Stewart Dyer.

Robert was a 1962 graduate of West Vigo High School, where he played tennis, and then entered the United States Navy, having served in Viet Nam on the Franklin D. Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier, and was also stationed in Panama City, Panama, and Jacksonville, FL.  He worked as a plumber with Plumbers & Steamfitters Local # 157 for 51 years.  He was also owner and operator of Red Oak Construction, Red Oak Plumbing, and Red Oak Bait and Tackle.  He had also worked at Sycamore Engineering and Freitag & Winehardt as a Superintendent.  He loved construction and teaching his sons and granddaughters the trade, and he built and remodeled numerous homes.  He was a Founding Member and Trustee of West Side Community Church, member of West Terre Haute Assembly of God Church, Robert loved helping at the church and serving the Lord.  Other memberships include the Red Oak Bass Club, Sycamore Bass Club, and worked concessions at ISU for various fishing clubs.  He loved fishing and building with his sons.  He also served as a coach, mentor, and leader of the West Terre Haute Little League, coach and mentor of Babe Ruth Baseball, a Royal Rangers Leader and Sponsor, and he enjoyed playing on church softball teams.  Most importantly, he was a loving grandfather.

Robert is survived by his wife Saundra Sue Selvia Dyer, who he married June 6, 1969 and their three sons; Eric Dyer (Cyndi) of West Terre Haute, Matthew Dyer of Miami, FL, and Jason Dyer of West Terre Haute.  Also surviving are his grandchildren; Sarah Dyer, Emma Dyer, Jayce Dyer, and Eva Dyer all of West Terre Haute, and Chubbz Dyer of Miami, FL, as well as special grandkids; Lenabelle Puller, Maggie Stahly, Molly Stahly, Pasley Puller, and Millie Stahly.  He also leaves behind his siblings; Kenneth Dyer (Clara), Dennis Dyer (Paula), Shirley Robins (Rick), and Rosa Puller (George).  He was preceded in death by his father, DeWayne Dyer, mother and step-father, Dorothy Stewart Dyer Andreas and Milton Andreas, as well as siblings Lillian Dyer Shipman (Alan) and Milton Andreas, Jr.

In honoring Robert’s wishes, cremation has been chosen and a private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. The family would like to give a special thank you to his favorite sister-in-law, Kathy Ritter, for the love, support and medical attention she gave to Robert during his illness, and also a thank you to Heart To Heart Hospice for their wonderful care.  Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN.
