Obituary

Myrna Lea Maxwell Easton

(December 2, 1952- August 18, 2023)

Myrna Lea Easton, 70, of West Terre Haute, IN, in the comfort of her home, ended her journey on Friday morning, August 18.

Myrna was born on December 2, 1952 to Robert Gale and Esther Murl Anstead Maxwell in Terre Haute.  She graduated from Garfield High School in 1970, attended Indiana State, Lincoln Christian College, was a stay at home mom while raising her children and graduated from Saint Mary of the Woods College in 2000 with her degree in elementary education.

Myrna spent many years as a substitute teacher and teacher’s aide for the Vigo County School Corporation but primarily for her West Side schools, Fayette and West Vigo Elementary.  Upon her graduation from Saint Mary’s she became a teacher at West Vigo Elementary.  Myrna loved her students as her own.  She retired from teaching in 2015.  She was a member of Cross Lane Community Church, the teaching sorority ADK, and a proud alumni and member of the Garfield reunion committee, class of 1970.

Myrna loved Jesus, her husband, Randy, with whom she celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on August 4, 2023, her children, her precious grandchildren, her students to which she was much more than a teacher, her cousins who were like siblings, her high school and teacher friends, her church family, watching and supporting West Vigo athletics, socializing, chocolate and giving hugs.  Myrna had the ability to love everyone, be intentional and never met a stranger.

Myrna was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Sharon Jones and Linda Akers; father-in-law Bill Easton and several special aunts, uncles and cousins.

Myrna is survived by her husband Randall J. Easton of West Terre Haute; her son, Ryan Easton (Cherish) of West Terre Haute; daughter Cassidy Fountain (Cory) of Izmir, Turkey; sister Debra McCullough (Dewey) of Terre Haute; her mother-in-law Betty Easton; sister-in-law, Katherine Easton (Chuck); the joys of her life, her grandchildren, Ellie, Maci, and Bryce Easton, Emma, Chloe and Benjamin Fountain, dear cousins, nieces, nephews and close Purple Eagle friends.

Myrna’s family would like to give a special thank you to Southern Care Hospice, specifically her aide, Summer Taylor and nurse, Terresita Lewis.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from 4-8pm at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 23 at 11am in the funeral home.  Burial will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery, Tecumseh.   In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to The Helping Hands of West Terre Haute in memory of Myrna Easton.
