Lucy Marie (Cox) Layton

Lucy Marie Layton, 87 of West Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 20, 2021 in her residence.  She was born in Terre Haute on May 25, 1933 to Vernon M. Cox and Martha E. Coppock Cox.

Lucy was a secretary for Norm’s Glass and Mirror and prior to that, worked at Kasameyer Glass for many years.  She was a member of Dunlap Church, where she was very involved in many activities.

Lucy is survived by two sons:  Jerry E. Layton and Dennis R. Layton (wife Cindy), as well as her grandchildren:  Michelle Layton, Danny Grodotzke, Maddie Cate Cooprider, Scott Layton, Jenny Layton, Chris Layton, and Cody Layton, and her best friend, Harriett Fouts. She is also survived by several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  She married Dean A. Layton on June 20, 1950 and he preceded her in death on April 6, 2016.  Also preceding her in death were four children: Michael Dwayne Layton, Cynthia Lee Layton, Janet Sue Gill, and James Allen Layton, a grandson, Jeremy Dean Layton, as well as ten siblings.

Funeral services for Lucy will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Rick May officiating.  Burial will follow in Bethesda Memorial Park.  Visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 26, 2021 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
