West Terre Haute

Larry Lee McGinnis, 84 of West Terre Haute, passed away in his residence on Monday, June 6, 2022.  He was born in West Terre Haute on April 10, 1938 to Loren Lee McGinnis and Violet Mae Ensminger McGinnis.

Larry was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the 3rd Armored Division in Germany.  He worked at Stran Steel for many years before retiring as a member of Laborer’s Local # 204 after 25 years, but was especially proud of owning McGinnis Towing and Salvage Yard.  In his spare time, he loved to boat and fish, and in Larry’s last year his dog Buddy was a saving grace and was a great companion to him.

Larry is survived by his two children, Dawn Marie Kasemeyer (husband Kurtis), and Michael Lee “Mo” McGinnis.  He is also survived by a sister, Monna Marie Brown, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and three nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his cousin and best friend, Ronnie Ray Anderson, and his brother-in-law, Aaron Brown.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been chosen with a Celebration of Life service to be held at a later date, and his ashes will be spread at his favorite fishing hole.  The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of the Wabash Valley and Elder’s Journey as well as a very special thank you to the nurses who cared for him; Rachel Pound, Briana Lewis, Michaela Ziebart, and Kylie McClain Kelsheimer for the exceptional care given to Larry.  Also a thank you to Jack Acord and HANNIG Construction for assisting with the HISTA Grant at Larry’s home.  Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
