Jo Ann Haymaker Crist

Jo Ann Haymaker Crist passed away at home in Fayette Township, Vigo County, Indiana on August 26, 2020.  Jo was born, along with her twin brother John, to Homer and Irene Preston Haymaker on May 17, 1937 in Pine Ridge, Indiana.  She graduated from Fayette High School in 1955 and married Jerry Crist on May 11, 1957.  She died after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dicy Ann, her sister-in-law Deanna Etchison (Bill), her brother and parents.

She is survived by Jerry and three daughters:  Linda Steppe (Steve), Carol Harrison (Jeff), and Darla Crist (Jack).  She is also survived by six grandchildren:  Cristen Kuhn (Ben), Caleb Harrison (Sarah), Brook Steppe (Jacob), Cate Henry (Mick), Brianne Schneckenberger (Brad), and Amelia Beasley.  Also surviving are six great grandchildren:  Aubrey Beal, Jamison Henry, Vivienne Henry, Jasper Steppe-Reynolds, Myles Harrison, and Colton Kuhn.

Her sister Lu Siner (Don) and sister –in-law Brenda Hagar (John) and many nieces and nephews also survive her.  Her surviving Naugle family include Bonnie, Mae, Jim, Laura, and Denise and other nieces and nephews.

Jo retired from R.H. Donnelly and also worked at the Open Door Christian Bookstore.  In retirement she and Jerry volunteered for many years at the Nazarene Food Pantry of the First Church of the Nazarene.  She made many friends and fond memories in that service.  Although Jo was known for her noodles and delicious pies, her preference was to be outdoors and working with her hands.  As a child she got a special thrill getting her fingernails dirty while working with her dad and brother around the farm.

Many thanks go to Dr. Huh and staff, Dr. V. Reddy and staff, and Union Hospital and Hospice of the Wabash Valley nurses and staff.  Thanks also to Pastor Jeff Augustus and her church family.

Per her wishes, there will be no visitation or services.  Fitzpatrick Funeral Home in West Terre Haute, Indiana helped with arrangements.
