Jack Hudson Jones

Jack Hudson Jones, 88, of West Terre Haute, went home to be with our Lord on July 27, 2023.

He was born January 31, 1935 in Terre Haute to Arnold Jones and Grace Hudson Jones.

Jack was an active member of the Terre Haute First Church of the Nazarene, where he served on the church board and taught Sunday school for many years. In his younger years, he ministered to others through song as a member of “The Singing Jones Family”. He was a four year veteran of the United States Navy, having spent time in Cuba, as well as serving as a ceremonial guard in Washington DC. Jack retired from Interstate Welding. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing checkers with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and doing crosswords.

Jack  married the love of his life, Augusta “Gussie” Jones on August 21, 1959. Together they raised their two daughters, Sandy and Brenda.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Gussie; and his daughter, Sandy Mathias.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Brenda Fuqua; grandchildren,  Michael Davis, Larry Mathias III (Leah), Joshua Davis, Kristin Mathias, Ashlea Brown (William), Stephanie, Christina and Nikki; and eleven great grandchildren, who fondly called him “Papa”. Jack has three siblings, Joseph Jones (Janet) Dorothy Webb, and the late Ann Crowley.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Terre Haute First Church of the Nazarene, 801 Fort Harrison Road, Terre Haute, Indiana; Pastor Denny Wilson and Reverend Larry Mathias will be officiating; burial with military honors will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery.
