Harry Leroy Switzer

West Terre Haute

Harry Leroy Switzer, 86, of West Terre Haute went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, February 10, 2020.    He was born December 24, 1933 to Worna and Gladie (Church) Switzer.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Sarah Barbee Switzer; children, Stephen (Jeanie) of Terre Haute, Raymond Allen (Catherine) of San Antonio, Texas, Michael (Ann Marie) of West Terre Haute, Larry (Annette) also of West Terre Haute.  Grandchildren; Angela, Jason, Stephanie, Vincent, Stevie, Kristina, Robin, Matthew, Warren, Hannah and Chris and their spouses.  And 28 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Leslie (Joan) Switzer and sisters Margaret West. Sisters in law Bertha Julian (Mike), Mary Burris and brothers in law Joe Barbee (Karen), Tom Barbee, Terry Pedro, and John Barbee. And several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Robert, Richard, Ermen; sisters Mary, Minnie and Rosemary; his in laws; Herman and Mary Barbee, brother in law Herman Barbee.

Harry was a lifelong resident of West Terre Haute and attended Sixth Street Wesleyan Church. Early in life he worked in the tree trimming business.  He retired as a foreman from Bemis Manufacturing after 33 years of service. After retirement, he worked at Switzer Auto Repair where he enjoyed the work, customers and his co-worker Adam Edington.  He lived a life well lived, mixed with hard work and play. Traveling to Florida, Minnesota and Canada to camp and fish with his family. Their family vacations were full of good memories and laughter. Harry was an avid bowler and bowled for years on many teams at Vigo Bowl and Sycamore Lanes. He enjoyed working outside in his yard and had a wonderful garden with plenty of tomatoes and peppers to share.  He enjoyed drives in the country with his wife and their 2 furry companions Bella and Sweet Pea.

The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice and nurses Ryan, Angie, Chelsea, Julie and Tammi for their attention and care.

Services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home at 220 North 3rd in West Terre Haute on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Bob Roush officiating.  Burial will follow at Bethesda Memorial Park.  Visitation is scheduled for Saturday from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

*In lieu of flowers, to honor his love of all animals and in memory of his beloved doggie Cassie, if friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society P.O. Box 3307 Terre Haute, Indiana 47803 or to the charity of their choice.
