David Earl Cox, 84, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on October 14, 2020 surrounded by his three daughters. Born 1936 in West Terre Haute, Indiana, he was the son of the late Vernon Miller Cox and Martha Elizabeth (Coppock) Cox.
After graduating from Concannon High School, David joined the US Navy where he became a skilled electrician. He proudly served in the Korean War and worked at Duke energy for 36 years before taking an early retirement. David was married to Jeanie (Butcher) Cox for 33 years and they had 3 daughters. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading, and taking long walks/hikes. In addition, he was a humble man and a proud American, but first and foremost, David was a husband, father and grandfather. He lived daily by the motto family first.
David is survived by his three daughters, Tammy Robertson (Jim), Cathy Ramsey (Tom), and Tabitha Byrd (Lance); 8 grandchildren, David Moody, Luke Moody, Rebecca Kirby, Mark Moody, Alan Ramsey, Zachary Byrd, Krista Ramsey, Austin Byrd, and 11 great grandchildren. Betty Cox survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Martha Cox, his wife Jeanie Cox, and his siblings Cyrus Cox, Joseph Cox, Richard Cox, Mary Ann Tatlock, Samuel Cox, Chuck Cox, Ilene Donham, Jimmy Cox and Georgie Cox.
Funeral services for David will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Lance Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
