William "Bill" Hal Jones

William Hal “Bill” Jones, 86, of West Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020 in IU Health Methodist Hospital.

He was born September 18, 1933 in Vigo County, Indiana to James H. Jones and Beulah I. McGuire Jones.

Bill served in the United States Marine Corp. He was the Maintenance Supervisor at Stran Steel. Upon his retirement from Stran Steel, Bill worked in the maintenance department at the Vigo County Courthouse for ten years. Bill was a member of the United Bethany Church of Christ, West Terre Haute, the Stran Steel Retirees Group, the American Legion Post #104 and the Joseph A. Bray Marine Corp. League. He was also a member of the West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge, F&AM Lodge #687, where he served as Past Master, the Vigo County Association of Actual Past Masters F&AM of Indiana, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Guardian for Job’s Daughter, Bethel #88 of West Terre Haute, Order of Eastern Star Chapter # 428 of West Terre Haute, where he served as Worthy Patron, and the Young Men’s Club of West Terre Haute.

Bill was preceded in death his parents; his wife, Rebecca Jane Mullen Jones, who passed away January 22, 2013; grandson, Austin Grant; siblings, Herbert Jones, Edel Camp, Arlene Miller, and Doris Corbin.

He is survived by his son, Hal Jones and his wife, Arlene; his daughters, Liz Grant and her husband, Brian, and Ellen Spillers; his grandchildren, Kristina Thomson, Karen Newby (Chris) and Keisha Spillers; great grandchildren, Vaughn Newby, Harper Newby, and Madyn Dron, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethesda Memorial Park, West Terre Haute. Pastor Steve Moore will be officiating; burial with Military Honors will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd Street, West Terre Haute, Indiana was entrusted with arrangements.
