Virginia "Ginny" Ruth Riesenbeck

Virginia Ruth Marshall Riesenbeck passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026 with her son and daughter in law by her side. “Ginny” was born in Evansville, Indiana on October 30, 1938 to Harry and Virginia Marshall. 

Ginny graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in 1956. Ginny went on to earn her Bachelors and Masters in Nursing Degrees from Indiana State University. Ginny began her nursing career at VA Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ginny was a nurse at Union Hospital for over 40 years where she helped open the Cardiac Unit, was Head Nurse of Coronary Care Unit, Director of Coronary Intensive Care Unit and Clinical Supervisor for Home Health Care. In addition to nursing, Ginny taught classes at ISU School of Nursing. Ginny was on the Minority Health Coalition Board, Hospice of the Wabash Valley and volunteered with Partners of the Americas where she made several trips to Brazil and hosted nurses from Brazil. Ginny loved to travel having visited every continent. Ginny greatly loved her family. Ginny was known for her sense of humor and huge frog collection. 

Ginny is survived by her son, David (Lee Ann) and several nieces and nephews. 

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Carolyn Pickens & Janice Villa, and grandson Dylan Riesenbeck. 

A special thank you to Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care for their compassion and excellent care of Ginny. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial tributes be made to Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care or Terre Haute Humane Shelter.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Brett Wilson officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home. In keeping with Ginny’s wishes, cremation will follow services.
