Thomas Edwin Slater

Thomas Edwin Slater, Jr., 85 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2025 in his residence. He was born in Marion County, IN on May 20, 1940 to Thomas Edwin Slater, Sr. and Hazel Slater and was raised in Speedway, IN.

Tom retired as Director of Business for Timberland Lumber Company & was very active in the Indiana Home Builders Association, having received many awards including the John C. Hart, Sr. Presidential Award in 2018 and the Mike Boeke Distinguished Service Award from the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis in 2019. He had “the gift of gab” and never met a stranger. Tom enjoyed photography and was a member of West Side Christian Church.

Tom is survived by his wife Sara Conklin Slater whom he married July 3, 1964 as well as three children; Doug Scott (Brenda), Joan Hosteter (Brye), and Jane Ann Stoltz (Mark). He is also survived by his grandchildren; Andrew Hosteter, Morgan Beard (Liam), Brody Stoltz, and Whitney Scott and great grandchildren; Mia, Declan, and Parker, as well as a brother, Richard Slater. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Scott, and a sister, Patricia Perkins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date in West Side Christian Church. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been chosen. Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
