Simon Francis Maher

Simon Francis Maher, 85 of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 5:35 PM at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care.  He was born in St. Mary-of-the-Woods on December 9, 1932 to Thomas George Maher and Mary Ellen Starr Maher.

Simon is survived by his wife Margaret Sullivan Maher, whom he married June 14, 1958.  Also surviving are his two children, Anne Boss (Dave), and Michael Maher (Becky).  Also surviving are four grandchildren;  Sean Maher, Cara Maher, Alexandra Boss, and Daniel Boss as well as a sister, Ruth Thralls, and a brother, Roger Maher (Janet).  He also leaves behind three sisters-in-law;  Marcia Maher, Frances Maher, and Norma Maher, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Simon was preceded in death by his parents, as well as eight siblings; George Maher, John Maher, Marie Garzolini, Joe Maher, Ed Maher, August Maher, Richard Maher, and Jim Maher.

Simon was a graduate of Concannon High School, and an Army Veteran, having attained the rank of sergeant, and was a carpenter. His memberships include St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Church and Carpenter’s Local # 133.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Church on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN 47885 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM with a rosary service at 7:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Church or VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley, in his memory.
