Roger Justin Maher

Roger Justin Maher, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away on July 13, 2019 surrounded by his wife and children.  Roger grew up in the Village of St. Mary-of-the-Woods with his parents and 10 siblings. He was a loving husband and devoted father who was an accomplished businessman and community servant. He co-owned and operated two successful businesses: Maher Supply and Kevin & Roger Maher Contracting.  Strengthened by his Catholic faith and his family values, Roger remained a loving servant of God, devoted family man and community leader.

Next to the youngest of 11 children, Roger was born on August 15, 1936, to Thomas George and Mary Ellen Starr Maher.  He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Janet Stark Maher. They were united in marriage on July 13, 1957, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Terre Haute. Family members include Jeff, Kevin (Diana), Shelly Aff (Terry), Lisa Durr (Bryan) along with seven grandchildren, Jennifer Andes, Annie McIntyre, Matthew Maher, Aaron Aff, Eric Durr, Austin Durr, and Paige Wampler.  Great-grandchildren include:  Apiphani Smith, Lauren Andes, Colin Andes, Aryanna Maher, and Caitlin Andes.  Roger also is survived by one sister, Ruth Thralls; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marie Garzolini, and eight brothers:  George, John, Aug, Joe, Ed, Jim, Simon, and Richard.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Thursday, July18, 2019 at St. Mary of-the-Woods Village Church located at 3827 N. Arms Place, St. Mary of-the-Woods, IN  47876.  Following visitation will be a Memorial Mass, with Father Darvin Winters officiating.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Mary of-the-Woods Village Church or the charity of your choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN.
