Robert L. Elkins Sr.

Robert Lee Elkins, Sr., 89 years of age, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. He was born in Terre Haute on May 7, 1936 to Jesse R. Elkins and Mildred E. Smith Elkins.

Robert was a member of the Family Worship Center in Brazil, IN and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a proud veteran of both the United States Army and Navy.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Penny W. Counterman (Eric) and 6 grandchildren; Anthony Elkins (Shawnee), Jessica Jones (Donny), Erica Fisher (Malcom), Sara Wood (Frank), Devon Elkins (AshLynn), and Alicia Elkins, and his daughter-in-law, Lori Elkins. He is also survived by 16 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Violet Rose Montgomery Elkins, his son Robert Lee Elkins, Jr., 2 brothers, James E. Elkins and Rudy Elkins, and a sister, Billie Jean Watson.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, In on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Larry Richmond officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
