Ernie Forster

Robert Ernest “Ernie” Forster was called to enter his heavenly home, Friday, September 25, 2026. He was born June 19, 1929, to Lawrence and Catherine Flinn Forster. He was the only boy in a family with 6 daughters, 3 older and 3 younger, so one can only imagine how spoiled he was. Dorothy Brenenman, Martha Brenenman, Mary Adelsberger, Evelyn Anderson, Pauline Brown, and Carol Robinson. Mary and Carol are the only sisters surviving.

On July 15, 1950, he married Lorene Byrer, to this union 5 children were born, Ron (Diana) Forster, Ernie (Debbie) Forster, Barbara (Mick) Beaver, Phyllis (Bob) Schlageter, and Peggy (Gary) McCarty. Peggy went to her heavenly home on July 24, 2026.

Ernie was an active member of the Sugar Creek Baptist Church of West Terre Haute and served on the nominating board that brought in Dr. Tom Savage to serve as the Pastor for approximately 12 years, and is still serving the church and community.

Ernie and his wife worked side by side for 16 years at Ernie’s Marathon, then due to health issues, moved to Nashville, Indiana, and purchased the KOA campground and enjoyed 14 years there before retiring.

He was a devoted husband for 76 years and dearly loved his 5 children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren and spouses, plus 19 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services for Ernie will be Wednesday, September 30, 2026, with a visitation from 11 am until 1 pm. Services will continue at 1 pm with Dr. Tom Savage and Pastor Larry Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Vermilion Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Youth Department, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
