Richard Samuel McClain, Sr.

Richard Samuel “Dick” McClain, Sr., 85 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026 in Union Hospital. He was born in Terre Haute on June 9, 1941 to Howard McClain and Mary Palmer McClain.

Dick worked at ALCAN for 21 years before retiring as a supervisor at GE Aviation. His memberships include: West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge # 687 F & AM, of which he was a member of for 55 years and served as Past Master, Kerman Grotto, member of the Drum Corps, and the Swords of Bunker Hill. In addition, he was a supporter of the Masonic Home Foundation.

Dick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marsha Frances Blanc McClain and their four children; Angela Bullock, Sherri Smith (Joe), Richard Samuel “Butch” McClain, Jr. (Liz), and Scott McClain (Nikki). Also surviving are his grandchildren; Hunter Bullock-Evans (Ryan), Taylor Bullock (Aaron Childress), Kristof Bullock, Amanda Hopkins (Kyle), Jessica Probst (Sam), Rylie Smith, Anthony Smith, Ciara Augustus (Nathan), Sam McClain (Monica), Keagan McClain, Cogan McClain (Cheylan), Molly McClain (Jacob), and Ashleigh Harrold (Joshua), as well as his great grandchildren; Parker, Tucker, Carter, Warner, Mason, Bryson, Kayson, Carson, Colton, Jameson, Zackary, Aiden, Gideon, Rosilyn, Mia, Wrenley, Oakley, Nashville, and Braxton, as well as his brother, Charles “Chuck” McClain (Denise), sister-in-law Janet Jones, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as two sisters, Menza Sweet (and her husband Bob), and Rosemary O’Brien (and her husband Jerry).

Funeral services will be held at West Side Christian Church, 126 North 8th St., West Terre Haute, IN on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 5:30 PM, with Pastor Chris Wilbur officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the church. Masonic Rites will be performed at 5:00 PM by West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge # 687 F & AM. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Happy Tails Animal Rescue, 16975 S.
