Listen to Obituary

Rebecca “Becky” Lynn Thomas (Haase) Carpenter lost her hard-fought battle with cancer on June 9, 2026. She fell asleep and passed peacefully in the home she shared with her beloved Bill near Cagles Mill Lake in Poland, Indiana. She was 64 years old. She was born to Betty and Edgar Thomas on February 13, 1962. The second oldest of five children, she was a 1980 Graduate of West Vigo High School. She married Brian Haase in 1979, and they share three boys. She was married to Jay Carpenter in 1995. She had been with her long-time companion and partner, Bill Kessler, since 2018.

She was bubbly, fun-loving, and so young at heart. She loved to sew, read, and paint. She enjoyed it when her boys told her “blonde” jokes and often pretended to take offense, even though she secretly loved them. She also enjoyed singing karaoke, relaxing on the beach, and every moment she and Bill spent together, as he was the love of her life.

She is survived by: her children, Edgar “Brandon” (Candice) Haase, Kelby (Elizabeth) Haase, and Rosco (Barbara) Haase; her grandchildren, Katelyn (Chris) and Evan (Allison), Isabel and Bailey, Aiden (fiancée Chloe), Zachary, and Huey; her great-grandchildren, Dean and Roman. Also, her father, Edgar Thomas, and sisters Lisa (Jim) Thornton, Joni (Jay) Hooper, and Shelly (Jim) Pickard.

She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, her mother, Betty (Edington) Thomas, and her brother, Russell Thomas. She will be cremated and laid to rest in her mother’s flower garden at her parents’ rural West Terre Haute residence.
