Pearl Eugene “Gene” Hoopingarner, 76 of New Goshen, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024 in Regional Hospital. He was born in New Goshen on January 16, 1948 to Norman Eugene Hoopingarner and Ethel Rose Edington Hoopingarner.
Pearl was a veteran of the United States Air Force and worked in the maintenance department/Project Team while employed at Bemis. He was a member of Tabernacle of Praise Church in New Goshen, if you’ve met Gene, you have certainly been invited to attend church with him. He was very proud of his community and his family heritage. He was a farmer at heart and loved working in his machine shop and sawmill, he was a very innovative man and had a great sense of humor. He was known to keep everyone laughing, no matter the circumstance and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Pearl is survived by his wife Connie Jo Guy Hoopingarner, whom he married February 23, 1973, as well as his two sons, Jason Hoopingarner and Matthew Hoopingarner. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Kelcey Rose Wheeler (Brandon), Mary Jo Elizabeth Hoopingarner, and Noah Matthew Hoopingarner, three great grandchildren; Kambrie, Brynlee, and Kaiya Wheeler, two sisters, Donna R. Price (Ralph), and Janet S. Halter (Darrell), as well as a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Hoopingarner. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 1:00 PM, with Brother John Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasantview Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
