Paul H. Carter, 80 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10:04 AM at Union Hospital.  He was born in Vigo County on October 2, 1937 to Robert Carter and Pauline Mason Carter.

Paul was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a retired welder from Stran Steel.  He was a life member of the West Terre Haute Young Men’s Club and helped build the St. Mary’s Village Fire Department while also serving as a volunteer firefighter.

Paul is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virgie Darnell Carter.  He is also survived by two children;  Michael Carter (wife Dina), and Michele Dunkley (husband William). Also surviving is a brother, Ralph Carter, and two sisters, Carla Murico and Joanne Carter.  He is also survived by his grandchildren;  Jeremy (wife Bryttany), Blake (wife Katie), Chad (wife Tiffany), Wyatt (wife Brittany), Jessie, Brianna, Ashley, and Kelsey.  In addition, he is survived by his great grandchildren;  Kaleb, Brynley, Bryley, Zaine, Piper and a great grandchild on the way.  He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as two brothers, Robert Carter and Alan Carter, as well as a sister, Mary Worthington.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute, on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 1:00 PM.  Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.  In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been chosen.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to VNA and Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 400 8th Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47804, in his memory.
