Norma Jean Johns Mueller
Date of Birth: January 24, 1933
Norma Jean Johns Mueller was taken into the arms of our Lord on August 31, 2024, after 91 years of life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winifred Herrington and James W. Johns, along with husbands, Morris Ellingsworth, Richard Burns, and William Mueller. Also preceding her in death were her brother and sisters, Nora, Ruth, Louise, James, Winnifred, and Katherine.
Norma, also lovingly referred to as “Mama”, is survived by Daughters, Darla Denise (Paul) Fox of Loves Park, IL, and Lisa Ann (Lee) Bell of Fishers, IN. She is also survived by grandchildren, Katherine, Sarah, Lauren, and Morgan, along with her precious great-grandson, Theo.
Norma was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ for many years until her care needs required her to relocate to Fishers, IN. Norma’s home in West Terre Haute was always open, and it served as a gathering point for friends and family throughout her life. Whether it was for morning coffee or afternoon visits, Norma’s home was a welcoming place.
Norma was also a pioneer for women in business, being inducted as an honorary member and receiving multiple honors from the Associated Building Contractors of Terre Haute (ABC) and as president of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) during her career in the construction industry. She was also a proud member of the Terre Haute German Oberlandler Club, where she was known for the cheesecake desserts that she would prepare for community events.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, from 12:00 – 2:00, followed by a memorial service, both of which will be at the Bethany United Church of Christ, 201 Miller Avenue, West Terre Haute, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of the Wabash Valley, or any similar nonprofit organization dedicated to the care of patients and their families during the final stages of life.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
