Listen to Obituary

Norma V. Maher, 101, of West Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. She was born on March 11, 1924, to Claude and Florence (Miller) Moore.

Norma graduated from Garfield High School in 1941. The following year, she married John T. Maher, and together they built a life grounded in love, hard work, and family. Norma went on to earn a degree from the Terre Haute Commercial College. In 1957, she and John founded Maher Inc. Gas and Fertilizer. Norma managed the office for many years and took great pride in her work.

After selling their business, Norma joined her son Mike in 1990 at his State Farm Insurance agency in West Terre Haute. While working there, she obtained her insurance licensing and served clients with care and professionalism. She also provided support in the law office of her other son, William, and later, at her grandson, Andreas', insurance agency. Known for her sharp mind and remarkable memory, Norma never forgot a name and was always eager to learn something new - even becoming computer savvy. She continued working for her family into her early 90's.

When she wasn't working, Norma loved to travel with her grandchildren. Over her lifetime, she explored the United States and Mexico as well as many destinations across Europe. A devoted member of St. Mary's Village Church, Norma lived a long and fulfilling life grounded in faith, family, and friendship. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

Norma is survived by her sons, Michael L. Maher (Lieselotte) and William J. Maher (Tina); grandchildren Andreas Maher, Laura Maher (Katie, Darren Maher (Megan), Tanya Brinza (Todd); great grandchildren Dr. Milton Brinza (Sabrina), Nora Maher, Kiera Maher, Aria Suelzer (John Henry), and Isabella Rutledge-Maher; as well as one great great grandchild, Beckham Brinza.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Maher, and her parents, Claude A. and Florence (Miller) Moore.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Sisters of Providence.

In keeping with her wish's cremation has been chosen. A private graveside service will be held at a later date, where Norma will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Village Church Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
