Max Hewitt

Max Glenn Hewitt, 82, of West Terre Haute, IN went to be with the lord Monday September 5th, 2016 at 6:30am. He was at Providence Health Care; St. Mary of the Woods. He was born the 23rd of June 1934 Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN to Edwin Booth and Ruth Marie (Cummins) Hewitt. He graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical High School in Terre Haute and served as PFC in the US Army.

He drove a sub-route for the USPS and a delivery route for Standard Oil. He co-owned Hewitt Sales and Service Implement Company of Marshall, IL and later the Hewitt Brothers Trucking Company. He and his brother concluded their careers co-owning M & R Farms, a cattle and grain operation. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans of America, Farm Bureau and Gideon's International. He was active in the South Vigo Congregational Church and served as pastor for 35 years and served in various church offices. He was instrumental in its remodeling and upkeep. He was superintendent of the South Vigo Cemetery for 35 years.

He enjoyed time with his nieces and nephews and taught those interested about farming.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Willard and Reese, his sister Mary F. (Hutchinson), Brother in law Coen Hutchinson and sister in law Marilyn Havens Hewitt. He is survived by his significant other Alice Koch Hanson, his brother Jack and wife Joan and sister in law Wanita Cook Hewitt, nine nieces and nephews and their spouses and their children.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8pm at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home in West Terre Haute, IN. Services will be Friday at 11:00am with Pastor Timothy Hewitt, nephew officiating. Burial will be in South Vigo/Black Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the DAV or to South Vigo Cemetery.
