Mary Marceline Ridenour

March 12, 1919 — July 29, 2017

Mary Marceline Ridenour, mom, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on July 29, 2017. She was 98 years old. She was born to Hugh Bell and Mary Ann Hill Bell on March 12, 1919 in Terre Haute, IN. Marceline was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Beatrice Maxine Bell, husband Howard Ridenour, son David Ridenour, and son-in-law, Marvin Scamihorn. She is survived by her son Gene Ridenour (Margie), daughter Marcia Scamihorn, nephew Louis Watkins (Janice), son Tom Ridenour (Susan), and daughter-in-law JoAnn Ridenour. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Marceline retired from the Vigo County School Corporation where she had a long career as school secretary, working at Consolidated School, North School, and West Vigo Elementary School. After retiring, she had a second career as pharmacy assistant at the Clay City Pharmacy. She was a lifetime member of the Bethany United Church of Christ in West Terre Haute, and active in the Vigo County School Secretaries Association, Teamster Wives, and Finders Seekers Bible Study group.

Marceline spent her last ten years with her daughter in Dayton, Ohio, where she continued to find pleasure in watching baseball and basketball games, working crossword puzzles, backyard birdwatching, garden flowers, and visiting with family and friends.

Visitation will be at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home from 12 to 3pm on Friday, Aug 4, with graveside service immediately following at Bethesda Cemetery with Rev. Steve Moore officiating. Family and friends are welcome at both.

Donations may be made in her name to the Bethany United Church of Christ.
