Listen to Obituary

Marcella Ruth Kincaid, age 96, of Center Point, Indiana died peacefully in her sleep at Westminster Village in Terre Haute, Indiana July 16, 2026. Born the second of five children to Soloman “Toby” Kincaid and Pearl Edna Froderman in Center Point, Indiana, Marcella and her siblings were raised in a time and place much removed from the modern world. In their rural, Hoosier home eggs were collected, coal was shoveled, pigs slaughtered, and goods traded as a way of life. Her father Toby worked first for the Works Progress Administration and later at Crane Naval Depot. Neither running water nor electricity was available in the household until after the Second World War.

Marcella graduated from Clay City High School-go Eels!-and briefly attended Indiana State University. She married William Herbert Campbell, also of Center Point, August 27, 1949 and were separated only upon his death on April 2, 2019. The union of this long, happy and fruitful marriage resulted in the births of their sons James Michael and Mark Allen.

Marcella was a long-time employee of Vigo County School Corporation where she worked as a secretary for her entire professional career. Among her several passions in life were sewing, knitting, gardening, and above all, genealogical research into the various branches of the Kincaid/Froderman and Campbell family lines. She was an active member of the Center Point Genealogical Society, where she frequently volunteered and conducted research. Producing multiple binders- complete with photographs, original correspondence, and extant documents-her work left a legacy rich in family history.

She is survived by her son Mark, grandchildren Ana and Will, great grandson Sunny, brother Doyle, sister Carol and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert, son Mike, brother Darrel and sister Lora Mae.
