Leona F. Johnson, 92 of Terre Haute, passed in the Commons at Honey Creek on October 5th, 2026. She was born on January 6th, 1934, to James Green and Ella Green.
Leona was a devoted member of Kings Highway Tabernacle from 1975 to 2008, where she became a vital part of the church’s life and ministry. She served faithfully in many ways, including cooking, cleaning, and greeting worshippers, and she was indispensable to Trumpet Magazine as its key figure in its distribution. In 2008 she joined New Life Fellowship, where she continued her life of service and faith, and was the oldest living member. After four years at Columbia Records, she retired to the work of a homemaker and also took on cleaning and upholstery for others in the community. Across the years she took part in more than 200 Bible studies, a quiet measure of the depth of her devotion and the constancy of her walk with the Lord.
Leona is survived by her children, Curt Johnson (Susan), Renda Thornton (Danny), and Tyra Bushee (Ed); grandchildren, Michael Seybold (Kelly), Bryce Johnson (Heather), and Katie Johnson (Tony); as well as two great grandchildren, Lacei Johnson and Talyn Charleston.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, James Green and Ella Green; her husband, Clarence Johnson Jr.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
