Janet Carol Strain Manley
August 24, 1944 — April 6, 2026
Janet Carol Strain Manley, 81, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy defined by an open door and a generous heart. Born on August 24, 1944, to Elmer and Mary Strain, Janet spent her life ensuring that anyone she met felt like family. She was a woman who truly made her home a sanctuary where all were welcomed and treated with genuine kindness.
On December 23, 1965, Janet married the love of her life, Marvin “Boney” Manley. Together, they built a life rooted in devotion and family traditions.
Janet was a dedicated professional, retiring from Donnelly Directory, but her truest "work" was the family she adored. She was a fiercely proud mother and grandmother, finding her greatest joy in the lives of her children and grandchildren:
Son Gary (Lori) Manley: Grandchildren Caleb Manley (Julianna), [Great-grandchildren Sadie, Elle, Hunter] and Cody (Alexis) Manley [Great-grandchildren Jensen, Layla].
Son Larry (Sharon) Manley: Grandchildren Mara (Noah) Long [Great-grandchildren Oaky, Jaxx], Isaac Manley (Sadie), and JohnMichael (Caitlyn) Manley.
An avid sports fan, Janet could often be found cheering on Indiana University. She was a loyal follower of Bobby Knight and never missed a chance to bleed Cream and Crimson.
Her happiest memories were made on the water and on the hunt for a bargain. Whether it was the annual family vacations to Kentucky Lake and St. Augustine, Florida, or a Saturday afternoon spent browsing Angel’s Attic and various thrift stores, Janet found beauty in the simple things.
Janet is survived by her loving brothers, Kenny (Cookie) Strain and Jack (Sharon) Strain.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin “Boney”, her parents, Elmer and Mary Strain, as well as her siblings: Elmer “Jr Strain”, Bob Strain, Bud Strain, Terry Strain, Max Strain, and Patsy Strain. While they have gone before her, the stories of the Strain family remain a cherished part of her history.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Janet’s honor to Gentiva Hospice 4134 S. 7th Terre Haute In. 47802
