James W. Phillips

West Terre Haute

James W. Phillips, 70 of West Terre Haute, received his ultimate healing on February 15, 2024 in his residence.  He is praising his Lord in Heaven now.  He was born in Terre Haute on January 22, 1954 to James W. Phillips and Erma Collins, and was raised by his grandparents George and Pearl Collins who he adored and affectionately referred to as “Mom and Pops”.

Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from Conrail-CSX after 38 years of service.  He loved God, his family, and the railroad.  He enjoyed reading and gaining as much knowledge as he could. He never met a stranger, and had a story for everyone. He faithfully read his bible every night and attended 1st Assembly of God Church in West Terre Haute.

Jim is survived by his eternal love Sherri Phillips whom he married February 10, 1989 as well as two children, Joshua James Phillips (Bryon) and Amanda Deevers (Dan), as well as his precious granddaughter Abby, who he loved infinity, beyond and the whole universe.  He is also survived by two brothers, Roger Cooper and Robbie Cooper, as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronnie Cooper, and sister Betty Crist.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1St Assembly of God Church, 708 West National Ave., West Terre Haute, IN 47885 on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 3:00 PM, with Pastor Randy Smith officiating.   In keeping with his wishes, cremation was chosen.  Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
