Francis “Frank” Dean Mershon, 84, of West Terre Haute, died Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Harrison Crossing in Terre Haute, IN, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born April 14, 1941, in West Terre Haute to John Mershon and Drusilla Worthington Mershon. He graduated from Concannon High School in 1959. After high school, Frank enlisted in the United States Air Force, and after an honorable discharge in 1965, he became a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 725. He was a member for 58 years, during which he served on the apprenticeship committee, a foreman, and as president of the union.
Frank is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 52 years, Sandra Baxter Mershon, his parents, and his sister, Connie Mershon Shaker. Survivors include; children Leslie Mershon Ling and her husband Quenton, Frank Mershon and his wife Carmen, and Deana Mershon Conner; grandchildren, Reghan Wetzel Easterly and her husband Josh, Mason Wetzel and his wife Ashlynn, Cassidy Mershon and her husband Lewis, Laka Ling, Hayden Wetzel, Kayl Mershon, Ellie Conner, and Sophia Conner; great-grandchildren, Norah Easterly, Violet Easterly, and Banks Mershon Wearne; siblings, Susan Mershon Savant, and her husband Norman, Butch Mershon, and his wife Sue, and Ronny Shaker; and 8 nieces.
Frank was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church where he volunteered at the school, as well as serving as an Usher. He was a Master third-degree Mason at the West Terre Haute Lodge no. 687, member of the Valley of Terre Haute Scottish Rite, and a member of the Zorah Shrine. He was also a member of the Bass Masters Red Oak Bass Club and a Varsity Club member at Indiana State University.
Frank’s calling in life was to help people. He helped in a multitude of ways; a dedicated volunteer at the St. Patrick Soup Kitchen, known as Fisherman Frank at Camp Bluebird (a support for adult cancer patients and survivors), Cub Master for Boy Scouts of America, Troop 78, coached Little League baseball, judged speech meets at West Vigo, and built sets for the Princeton Community High School Theatre Program.
With Frank, you could always expect two things: he was going to tease you, and he was going to hug you. For all who knew him, no matter how long, he left a lasting impression of strength, loyalty, integrity, and humor.
Love one another, take care of people, and keep your pants dry. -Frank
