Donald Raymond Edington, Sr.

February 23, 1939 — March 2, 2024

West Terre Haute

Donald Edington, aged 85, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in his home in West Terre Haute, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 23, 1939, in Paris, Illinois, to Ora B. and Ruth M. Edington. After marrying Linda Sewell on June 6, 1964, in Dallas, Texas, they moved to his hometown in Indiana the following year.

Don spent most of his life working as a skilled mechanic. However, his true joy in life came from being with his family. For nearly six decades, they resided on their property outside of New Goshen. He had a fondness for farming part-time and diligently maintained his yard, often mowing it twice a week. Don possessed a deep passion for his beagle hounds, and one could frequently find him on the porch swing, gently petting and spoon-feeding them. Known for his witty replies and mischievous smile, Don approached life with a lighthearted spirit.

Unfortunately, his health began to decline in September 2019 when he suffered a stroke. Don fought tenaciously against his ailments. In June 2022, he was overheard conversing with his lifelong friend Randall Brewer, who has since passed away. Don uttered, "I can't remember a lot of things, but I've enjoyed my life."

Donald Edington is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, and their five children: Kathy (David) Clater, Donnie Edington, Ben (Tammy) Edington, Dan Edington, and Randall (Laura) Edington. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, his brother-in-law Sooner McDaniel, and numerous nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Ruth Edington, as well as his siblings: Gene (Ethyl) Edington, Robert (Luada) Edington, MaryEllen (Jim) Jones, and Gloria McDaniel. May his soul rest in peace.
