West Terre Haute, IN

Donald L. Barton, 81, passed away August 15, 2019.

He was born in Vigo County on the family farm on March 1, 1938 to Don and Wanda (Greenlee) Barton. Don graduated from Concannon High School in 1956 and earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana State University in 1966. Don worked for 3M Company in Terre Haute and Ford Motor Credit in Marshall, Illinois. He left office work to drive for Garrison Transport and later for Spence Banks Company. He became co-owner and operator of Centennial Tire and Snack’s Café, both located in West Terre Haute. He was a member of the Free Masons Lodge #687 and the Young Men’s Club.

Don grew up learning to respect and be a good steward of the land that had been in his family since the 1920’s. He took an interest in the environment and supported measures to ensure its protection. The skills he learned as a boy taught him to solve daily problems with the tools that you have and ingenuity.

Don is survived by his sister, Karen Ramey of West Terre Haute; his nephew, R. Dwayne Ramey (Lynn) of Tennessee; his niece, Christine Ramey (Frank Faust) of Florida; his grand niece and nephew, Caitlin and Clayton Ramey; and his extended family and friends. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him and enjoyed his sense of humor and tall tales.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff of Southwood Health Center and VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley for their care and support. A special thanks to his nurse and friend, Wendy.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation with no services has been chosen. The family has entrusted Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd Street, West Terre Haute, Indiana with making arrangements.
