Don “Smoky” Olinger

Don “Smoky” Olinger, 75 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023 in his residence.  He was born in Terre Haute on May 2, 1948 to Robert Olinger and Dorothy Piker Olinger.

Don was a retired coal miner with Peabody Coal Co.  He was a member of the NHRA, an avid drag racer, and enjoyed building his own drag cars. He was a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment.  He enjoyed being outdoors, taking long walks, and loved his grandkids.

Don is survived by his wife Tana Sekerak Olinger, whom he married February 19, 1965 and their two sons; Jeff Olinger (Michelle) and Johnny Olinger (Brooke).  Also surviving are his grandchildren; Dustin (Taylor), Emily, Hannah, Danielle (Jim), Breanna (Tom), Bryce, Destiny, Michele, and Haleigh,twelve great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be held at Pleasantview Cemetery on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 1:30 PM, with Pastor Chris Wilbur officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
