Deward "Deke" Eugene Philpott

Deward (Deke) Eugene Philpott, Jr. of Terre Haute, passed away July 10, 2026 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born October 1, 1968 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Deward (Deke) Eugene Philpott, Sr. and Mary Margaret Umphries.

He is survived by his three sisters, Lora Umphries of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, Stardust Watson (Paul) of West Terre Haute, Indiana and Stacy Dowdy (Bradley) of Missouri and one brother, John Philpott (Marie) of Valparaiso, Indiana. He is also survived several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Per the families wishes cremation was chosen. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Herz-Rose Park, 1515 Locust St., Terre Haute, IN 47807 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Terre Haute Humane Shelter, 1811 S. Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803.
