Delbert R. "Pops" Chessir

Delbert Ray "Pops" Chesshir, 86, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025 in The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. He was born in West Terre Haute on August 26, 1938 to Earnest O. and Edith G. Chesshir.

Delbert married the love of his life, Melvina Evetts Chesshir on May 3rd 1957 and she preceded him in death on September 29th 2022. He was also preceded in death by son Earnest Wesley Chesshir (Fonda), his parents and three sisters; Dinah Norton, Vera Creasey and Lenora Ward.

Delbert is survived by three children; Kelly Chesshir (LaDonna), Catherine Tarwater, and Mariah Chesshir, along with three sisters; Corrine Bagley, Pat Working, and Sherry Boe, as well as two brothers, Jack Chesshir and Kelvin Chesshir. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members, including Summit (the family dog).

Delbert was an avid hard-working family man and retired from both J.I.Case in Terre Haute and I.Y.C. Correctional Facility in Plainfield. After retirement "Pops" went to work as "Materials Handler" for son Kelly and held that position for 16 years.

He loved singing, fishing, good food, a friendly card game and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St.,

West Terre Haute, IN on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 1:00 PM, with John O'Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
