Daniel “Dan” Bernard Kane, 78, of West Terre

Haute, passed away May 31, 2026, in The Gibson

Kane. He was a graduate of Garfield High School.

Dan was a veteran of the United States Army who

served in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969 and was

honorably discharged in 1974. Dan began his

working career at Anaconda Aluminum/Alcan before

becoming a Correctional Officer at Putnamville

Correctional Facility. His final occupation was as a

and Scottish Rite. One of his favorite activities was

participating as a driver for the Shriners, transporting

children to the hospital in St. Louis. He also enjoyed

driving his golf cart around visiting with neighbors.

He loved a good game of Canasta. He took great joy

in feeding the various local wildlife, especially the

squirrels and the birds. He also enjoyed spending

quiet time with the love of his life by the river,

watching the water. Above all else, his greatest pride

and deepest joy were his children and

grandchildren. Nothing brought Dan greater joy than

being with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant

twin brothers, Patrick and Peter; his infant sister,

Bridgett Susan; and special aunt, Hannah “Auntie”
