Charles Wayne Apple, 88 of St. Mary of the Woods, passed away at 2:03 AM on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 in his residence.  He was born in Paoli, IN on January 13, 1931 to Charles Addison Apple and Alice Wells Apple.

Charles was a veteran of the Unites States Marines Corps and retired from the former Idaho Street Post office location in Terre Haute.  He was former President of the American Postal Workers Union Local # 290 and served as a volunteer fireman at the St. Mary’s Village Volunteer Fire Department.  He loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter and loved to garden.

Charles is survived by his wife Norma Whitlock Apple, whom he married February 20, 1965.  Also surviving are three children; Steve Apple (wife Nancy), Janice Lindsey (Greg Finney), and Mary Beth Harris (husband Brian).  He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Jason Apple (wife Stephanie), Chad Apple (wife Teri), Joseph Lindsey (wife Tiffany), Marcus Lindsey (wife Nicky), Garrett Harris, and Adelynn Harris, as well as four great grandchildren; Lilly Apple, Layla Apple, Lyssa Apple, and Kaeden Apple.  In addition, he is survived by his sister, Mary Pritchard and a sister-in-law, Glenda Pfaff, as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Huffine Apple, brothers Max Apple and Larry Elliott, a sister, Helen Goings, and his mother and step-father, Alice and Austin Elliott.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been chosen, with no services scheduled at this time.  Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 north 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN.
