Betty Lou Whallon

Betty Whallon, of West Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on September 23, 2026, at the age of 89.

Betty was born in Terre Haute on February 17, 1937, to Carl and Lucille Nichols. She shared her childhood with her twin brother, Bob Nichols, with whom she remained close throughout her life.

Later, Betty worked at the AP&S Clinic in Terre Haute alongside her friend Carol. It was through Carol that Betty met her future husband, Bob Whallon. Their relationship blossomed, and Betty eventually flew to Germany to marry Bob while he was serving in the Army. After returning to the United States, they settled down and began their life together, raising their two children, Bethann and Daniel.

Betty spent much of her life devoted to her family and her faith. She was a Christian who believed in serving God and helping others. She was involved in her church and helped create a bus ministry in West Terre Haute, giving children and families a way to be part of the church.

Being a mother was an important part of Betty's life. She loved her children and was always there in her own way, watching over them and being part of their lives. Her faith was something she carried with her throughout the years and was an important part of who she was.

Betty is survived by her brother, Bob Nichols; her daughter, Bethann Smith (Mark Smith); her son, Daniel Whallon (Cathy Whallon); and her granddaughter, Tatum Whallon.

Betty will be remembered as a devoted mother, a woman of faith, and someone who spent her life caring for the people she loved. She leaves behind memories that will remain with her family for years to come.

Services for Betty will be Monday, October 5, 2026, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd Street, West Terre Haute, Indiana, 47885 at 1 pm. Visitation for Betty will be from 11 am to service time on Monday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Pastor Larry Spear will officiate.
