On Thursday, March 7, 2024, Bob Smith of West Terre Haute, IN, passed away peacefully
following a brief illness.
Arthur Robert Smith was born on April 16, 1939, to John and Cecelia Smith. He was the
youngest of three siblings, along with his brother Jim and beloved sister Laverne.
Bob graduated from Concannon High School in 1957 and attended Indiana State University. For
over 40 years, he worked for Anaconda-Arco-Alcan-Novellis in various roles, traveling across
North America and mentoring generations of employees. He was a diehard Indiana University
basketball fan and rarely missed watching a game. Bob was a kind and generous man who
provided for his family above all else.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Kim Worland, and son-in-law, Jim Worland of St. Mary-of-the-
Woods, IN; son-in-law, Kelly Myles of Terre Haute, IN; granddaughter, Mila Myles of Los
Angeles, CA; and adopted son, Jack Morelan of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his
parents, father, John Smith, and mother, Cecelia Smith (née Gooding), the latter of whom
emigrated from the United Kingdom in 1911; sister, Laverne Lydick (née Smith); brother, Jim
Smith; and daughter, Laura Myles.
Per Bob’s final wishes, a small graveside service will be held for all family and friends on
Monday, March 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Graveyard in West Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers,
his family encourages those interested to donate to West Terre Haute Food Pantry in his
memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
